Fascinating Technology: The Untersberg Cable Car

Since its establishment in 1958 and the commencement of operations in 1961, the Untersberg Cable Car (UBB) has stood for impressive technological achievements in the world of cable cars. The reversible aerial tramway, operated in pendulum mode, masterfully navigates the geographical features of the Untersberg.

A distinctive feature is the significant elevation difference of 1320 meters that the cable car overcomes, as well as the exceptionally long section of 1.548 kilometers between the valley station and the first support tower, which allows passengers to seemingly glide through the air.

The Untersberg Cable Car Company was founded in 1958, construction began in 1959, and operations were inaugurated in 1961.
